01Context
The Senegal-Mauritania aquifer basin is shared by several countries and requires coordinated management.
Structuring and bankable projects were to be identified at the basin scale.
02Issues
Sustainable mobilization and security of the resource requires precise knowledge of its geometry, productivity and quality.
The challenge was to strengthen decision-making by reducing hydrogeological uncertainties.
03Mission objectives
- Assess groundwater resources in the basin
- Identify flagship transboundary projects
- Design bankable projects at BASM scale
- Support regional cooperation
04Services delivered by EAU-GEF
- Assessment of water resources in the sedimentary basin
- Identification of flagship transboundary projects
- Design of bankable projects
- Support for transboundary governance
05Approach & methodology
The approach combined desk study, field investigations, geophysics and hydrogeological interpretation to clarify the system's functioning.
Results were spatialised to objectify decision-making and guide infrastructure development.
06Results & added value
The mission provided the client with a solid and substantiated basis for sustainable management and mobilization of the resource.
It demonstrates EAU-GEF's expertise across the entire hydrogeological study chain.
