Panthior Dam Rehabilitation — Preliminary Design / Detailed Design / Tender Documents

Preliminary Design, Detailed Design and Tender Documents studies for the rehabilitation of Panthior Dam, including analysis of the structure's impact on the aquifer.

Client
Ministère de l'Hydraulique / TPF
Countries
Senegal
Year
2024–2025

01Background

The Panthior Dam was to be rehabilitated to restore its hydraulic functions.

The impact of rehabilitation on the surrounding aquifer had to be controlled.

02Issues

Mobilising and securing the resource sustainably requires precise knowledge of its geometry, productivity and quality.

The challenge was to strengthen decision-making by reducing hydrogeological uncertainties.

03Project Objectives

  • Characterise the geology and hydrogeology of the site
  • Analyse the impact of rehabilitation on the aquifer
  • Prepare Preliminary Design, Detailed Design and Tender Documents studies
  • Design monitoring structures

04Services Delivered by EAU-GEF

  • Geological and geophysical study
  • Hydrogeological study of the site
  • Impact analysis on the aquifer
  • Preliminary Design / Detailed Design / Tender Documents dossier and monitoring structures

05Approach & Methodology

The approach combined desk review, field investigations, geophysics and hydrogeological interpretation to clarify the system's functioning.

Results were spatialised to objectify decisions and guide the structures.

06Results & Added Value

The project provided the client with a solid and substantiated foundation for the management and sustainable mobilisation of the resource.

It demonstrates EAU-GEF's expertise across the entire hydrogeological study value chain.
