01Context
Gorée Island, a heritage site, requires drinking water supply solutions adapted to its constraints.
A detailed understanding of the geology and hydraulic potential was required.
02Challenges
Understanding the subsurface determined the reliability and safety of decisions to be made.
The challenge was to support the diagnosis with robust field data.
03Mission objectives
- Characterise the geology and geophysics of the island
- Analyse sites with hydraulic potential
- Compare drinking water supply alternatives for Gorée
- Design appropriate water abstraction structures
04Services provided by EAU-GEF
- Geological and geophysical survey
- Data analysis for sites with potential
- Analysis of drinking water supply alternatives
- Design of water abstraction structures
05Approach & methodology
The method combined geological surveys, geophysics and cross-cutting interpretation to resolve subsurface uncertainties.
Results were mapped to prioritise sectors and guide decisions.
06Results & added value
Results provided a reliable geoscientific diagnosis, forming the basis for subsequent technical decisions.
The mission demonstrates EAU-GEF's expertise in applied geosciences.
