Master plan for OMVG basins
Diagnostic and prospective analysis of groundwater resources and contribution to the integrated development master plan for OMVG transboundary basins.
- Client
- UNCDF / OMVG
- Countries
- Guinea
- Year
- 2021–2022
01Context
OMVG transboundary basins require coordinated management among four countries.
An integrated master plan was required to guide sustainable development of the resource.
02Issues
Mobilizing and securing the resource sustainably requires precise knowledge of its geometry, productivity and quality.
The challenge was to strengthen decision-making by reducing hydrogeological uncertainties.
03Mission objectives
- Conduct diagnostic assessment of groundwater resources
- Perform prospective analysis of needs
- Contribute to the integrated master plan
- Coordinate regional experts
04Services provided by EAU-GEF
- Diagnostic analysis of groundwater
- Focal point for coordination in Senegal
- Contribution to regional reports and workshops
- Water resource component of the master plan
05Approach & methodology
The approach combined desk review, field investigations, geophysics and hydrogeological interpretation to clarify system functioning.
Results were mapped to objectify decisions and guide infrastructure development.
06Results & added value
The mission provided the client with a solid and substantiated foundation for sustainable management and mobilization of the resource.
It demonstrates EAU-GEF's expertise across the entire hydrogeological study cycle.
