Action Plan for Water Resources Management

01Context

Water resources management is a central issue for Senegal's sustainable development, in a context of increasing pressures and climate variability.

DGPRE wished to equip itself with a structured action plan, articulating diagnosis, priorities and implementation modalities.

02Challenges

Translating strategic orientations into concrete, prioritized and fundable actions was the main challenge.

Consistency between scales, stakeholders and uses had to be ensured.

The approach was based on integrated analysis of issues and on integrated water resources management (IWRM) logic.

Priorities were built to remain operational and adapted to the institutional context.

06Results & Added Value

The action plan provides public authorities with a clear roadmap for more integrated and sustainable water resources management.

The mission confirms EAU-GEF's role as a reference partner for water policies in Senegal.
